On the 20th July on a very pleasant day, a group of 15 Club members, accompanied by Club Chairman, Steve Oram and Club Administrators Kate O’Reilly
and Nathalie Smith, paid a visit to the award winning Phoenix Pub in Faversham which is owned by Club Deputy Chairman, David Selves.
The trip was at the express request of Club members and we began by assembling in the late morning over coffee at The Phoenix. This was followed by a conducted tour by David of Faversham old town and its interesting buildings. We continued to the atmospheric Creek where David explained he hosts several times a year, a ‘Sail the Swale’ which involves a hired Thames Barge to take his guests off along the Creek eventually reaching the River Swale where the traditional red sails are hoist before returning to The Phoenix for lunch. Some of us were sad that it wasn’t one of those days!
After walking through the Boatyard, we made our way back to The Phoenix for an excellent meal with some good guest beers and wine. Club members clearly enjoyed David’s hospitality, the informality of the occasion and each other’s company. Chairman Steve Oram thanked David on behalf of those present and then informed the audience that he had just learnt that David was to get married next year! We all wished him and Tracy well.
