A full house at the Museum of London’s Weston Theatre last night saw the Hugh Cudlipp Lecture and Hugh Cudlipp Award for Student Journalism return to the original home of the London Press Club.
The evening started with a welcome from Paul Charman on behalf of the Cudlipp Trust before Jacki Davis paid tribute to her mother Margaret Allen, a trustee who passed away late last year. LPC chairman Doug Wills then introduced Lloyd Embley on behalf of sponsor the Daily Mirror.
Mirror editor-in-chief Embley then presented the Hugh Cudlipp Award for Student Journalism. The winner was Francesca Ebel who through print and video revealed the tragic human cost of the war in the Ukraine. She was unable to join in person but sent over a video acceptance from Russia. Highly commended were: Ashley Kirk for a highly professional in depth report on increasing levels of stress among our NHS staff; Hugh Davies for a penetrating investigation into how the super rich exploit vulnerable domestic workers; and Tanveer Mann, who told the appalling story of virtual domestic slavery in the heart of the capital.
